According to the most recent data released on Sunday by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the relatively richer states of Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra accounted for more than half of the cases of cybercrime in 2022, representing a 24.4% increase over the previous year.
On the whole, 65,983 instances of cybercrimes were enlisted the nation over in 2022, a huge leap from the 52,974 signed in 2021 — when the actual number had become by 11.8% from 2020.
These figures pertain to crimes committed using computers or the internet as a means of persuasion or victimization. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act are both used to register offenses, which include fraud, ransomware, and impersonation.

The cybercrime rate expanded from 3.9 cases per hundred thousand individuals in 2021 to 4.8 in 2022, the report said.
